This paper aims to identify approaches, strategies and instruments to strengthen and facilitate compliance with, and enforcement of, environmental laws and regulations in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in the context of trade liberalization. Based on existing literature and case studies, it aims to identify lessons learnt and best practices that can be implemented in the context of LAC countries, considering the constraints these countries face in the implementation of their environmental regime.
