The purpose of this report is to inventory and review the literature on Environmental Assessments of Services Trade Liberalisation. It is divided into six sections. Section one provides an overview of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and of its relevant provisions in the context of EA of STL. Section two presents general methodologies for EA of STL, drawing on work undertaken by the OECD, the European Commission (EC)and WWF. The third, fourth and fifth sections take a closer look at methodologies to assess economic, regulatory and environmental impacts respectively. The sixth and last part of this document surveys sectoral studies on ten of the twelve services sub-sectors of the GATS for which information could be found.
